Spring is in the air....no literally

I feel like this blog has turned into an outlet for all of the complaints we have regarding our apartment/each other. SO...in order to continue that trend I would like to file a complaint. Last night as Bev and I sat in the living room, watching a little TV, we began to notice that our living room was incredibly warm, or rather stifling. Bev and I were puzzled because as soon as the temperature outdoors reached 60-70s, we turned off every heat dial in our house. I decided to inspect the heat dial in the living room myself to make sure it was exactly were we left it...OFF. Imagine my surprise to find that the dial was cranked all the way up to 85F. I was speechless. I relayed my discovery to Bev....she had a one word response for me...GERALDINE.

Now, for those of you who don't know, Geraldine has a tendency to crank the heat in every room in the house, especially the living room. Now usually, Bev, Betty or I immediately turn the heat back down to where it should be after Ger touches it, however none of us realized that Geraldine turned our heat up to sauna status last night. I think we may need to take drastic measures...high school style, cover the temperature dial with plastic and lock it...take that Geraldine...just kidding, love ya!

UPDATES:
Since we don't post as regularly as we did 1st semester, I feel the need to give some updates...
- No worries friends, we passed our housing inspection, no violations here!
- Bev has decided to attend Loyola next year for grad school...get it GIRRRRRL!
- BJ gave her very first seminar presentation yesterday and she ROCKED it!
- Betty now has 12 participants for her seminar study...yeah!
- Geraldine now makes it until almost 12 am everynight...congrats Ger, you're no longer a grandma :)
- Alistair now responds when you yell "hey ugly," it seems we've trained him well

Thats all for now friends, more posts to come over spring break. I hope everyone travels safe and don't forget not to do anything we wouldn't do.

Kitchen Overhaul

In an effort to completely clean our apartment, we decided it was high time the fridge had an overhaul. While this seemed like a brilliant idea, we soon found we had our work cut out for us. Exhibit #1: Sour mix, spilled all over the bottom shelf of the fridge-it's been there since week 2 of first semester...disgusting. Exhibit #2: Salad dressing leaked out of the bottle onto all three door shelves- the result, every single bottle in the door had to be rinsed and dried. Exhibit #3: "deli drawer" had crumbs and peaces of unrecognizable food- the result- Betty had to get down and dirty in the shower with it.

For some, cleaning the nasty fridge would have been enough, but for Betty, Bev and I, it was just the beginning. We decided, in order to make the kitchen more efficient, we needed to rearrange all of the counter-tops/cupboards. BRILLIANT...3 hours later, it was not so brilliant. While this process did take up most of our Friday night, it was worth it when Geraldine walked in the kitchen the next morning and couldn't find a glass..BAHAHAH.

That is all for now.

Seminary 3 = WW4

So this weekend, Betty and Geraldine ditched BJ and Bev to go home. Now normally, BJ and Bev would have utilized this time to clean the apartment and make it look presentable for when the other half of our family returned, however, this weekend that did not happen, which in turn left our apartment in a state which would horrify any fraternity member.

Brief description of the nastiness that is our apartment:

Kitchen- Dirty dishes (mostly mine) line the sink, clean dishes are overflowing on the "drain" side of the sink. The floor has not been swept/mopped in over a week. The countertops look like a break factory, aka crumbs are everywhere.

Dinning Room- Books, papers, binders, notebooks, makeup, nail-polish, laptops and cups cover the entire table. Also the floor has not been vacuumed in almost 2 weeks.

Living Room- Again, papers, books, backpacks and cups cover almost every surface area. Also, all of the furniture is disarranged from Bev's photography project. PS- we are still missing several bouncy balls from that particular endeavor, if you find any, let us know.

Bathroom- Perhaps the nastiest room in the house, this one does not even deserve a description, i'll leave it up to your imagination.

I would say that the ladies of seminary 3 need to clean, immediately, before their apartment becomes a health violation...just kidding, its really not that bad, just messier than our usual neat freak status.

Kisses to all this cold afternoon,
BJ

UPDATES

First I must begin by apologizing. I have been informed, by several of our loyal readers, that the seminary 3 blog has not lived up to its first semester standards. For this I am sorry, seminar is currently ruling my life, and I'm fairly certain, Betty, Geraldine and Bev have forgotten about this poor little blog.

I will, however, promise that I will do a better job of keeping the blog updated, as it allows some of you to procrastinate for a little bit longer.

NEWS:
I have decided, since it has been almost 3 weeks since the last post, to give updates on all of the roommates as well as some of our important friends.

Barbara Jean:
BJ's life has become a black hole of seminar hell as of late. She has enjoyed 3 weeks of sleep overs with Roy as well as new found addiction to Dunkin Donuts Hazelnut Coffee. Her roommates hardly ever see her and seem to be locking her out constantly.

Betty:
Betty has been up to the usual Spanish and Kinesiology homework, also she has a new found love of garlic bagel chips, which make the rest of the roommates, BJ especially flee when she enters a room.

Geraldine:
Our lovely law school applicant was just accepted to SLU, (congrats GD!!) news which she was thrilled to hear, as it means she has a future :)

Bev:
Oh Bev...so much to say. Our lovely Psychology Grad school applicant has been accepted to both MS and Loyola...YAY BEV! Now it comes down to choosing one, which may be more difficult than the application process itself.

Journey Jo:
Our beloved bride-to-be has been working on planning her wedding as well as plodding through her senior seminar, get it girl!

Chastity:
Our friendly GC native has been absent as of late due to a serious of illnesses which, today, landed her in the hospital, our thoughts are with you Chas.

Cornelius:
Has reached a new status on the "Seminary 3 Loves You Chart" as he purchased Heavyweights (Yes, the movie about the fat camp kids) and mailed it to Betty for all of Seminary 3 to enjoy!

Arnold:
No surprises here...he's still an asshole

Well, I hope you enjoyed this brief update, I promise to keep the blog updated with amusing daily occurrences.

XOXOXO
BJ

Children's books and Three Ways

I Barbara Jean, may have had the most interesting day of my college experience. Today I received an email telling me I had a package at the Student Union. I knew exactly what it was-several books I have been waiting for. One of which was the Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Irving. Imagine my surprise when the envelope containing this book was completely flat. Nevertheless, I refused to be perturbed, I opened the package, pulled out its contents and looked down to find myself holding a children's picture book entitled "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." I was at this point, slightly confused as I had directly copied the ISBN HB had given us. Now either HB is playing a cruel joke on us and this is truly the book we need or he gave us the wrong number. Anyways, my roommates found this whole ordeal hilarious, for me, however it was frustrating. No worries, I will be sure to keep you updated on the Sleepy Hollow situation.

On another note, I received a hysterical phone call from Betty last night telling me I had to come home immediately. SO, being the good friend I am, I hauled my ass home to see what exactly had put her in such a tizzy. Imagine my surprise to discover her three way video chatting with Cornelius and his brother,Lawrence . For whatever reason, the four of us became slap happy which led to Cornelius performing an entire dance routine in his desk chair to the one and only Ping Pong Song as well as the ever entertaining brotherly banter between the two boys.

And there we have it...a summary of the last few days at Seminary 3. We promise the updates will become more consistent, once we become bored with our classwork and need to procrastinate.

That is all-
Sorry bout ya

Dear President Casey.....

I would like to inform you that today should have been a snow day. Either you cancel classes or you teach physical plan how to shovel sidewalks. This morning when I opened my front door, I discovered that our entire sidewalk/steps area was covered with snow that reached my knees. Luckily I was wearing my trusty Ugg boots, however other students were not so lucky. It literally took me 10 minutes to cross the street and reach each college. Mind you this was at 10:30, thus there should have been plenty of time for the sidewalks to have been cleared but alas they were not. Also, the city of Greencastle needs to learn how to work their snow plows properly. Not only were most of the streets not plowed, but the ones that were plowed were done so horribly that cars were getting stuck. So the purpose of this post? To let President Casey know that today should have been a snow day.

That is my rant
Hugs and Kisses,
BJ

And I returned from Egypt alive!

Since it has been 3 weeks since Ive updated, I decided it was about time. So lets begin with Egypt...lets just say it may have been one of the most amazing times of my life. We rode camels, bartered with the natives, ate falafel, ran from the riot police, flirted with Egyptian men and touched the Nile, amongst other things. Cairo was dirty and smelly but beautiful none the less. One interesting development is that each Egyptian bathroom contains a beday (so NOT spelled correctly), my roommate thought it was a urinal and thus sprayed herself in the face with toilet water. Overall it was an amazing trip and I am missing the "gypt" already, in fact I am planning a trip back this summer :). In other news, our lives (those of us who are greek) are consumed by rush, thus don't expect any posts in the near future. Once school gets started and rush is over, Im sure we will have many funny stories to share!

got heat?

oh, winter term. jamaica. egypt. argentina. there are two things that all three places have in common: 1) the temperature is above 70 degrees, and 2) im not in any of those places. you see i had my fun sophomore year frolicing around cameroon and decided to save a bit of $$ this year by doing an internship in indianapolis. this unpaid internship will no doubt help my future; however, friday it is forecasted to be -6 degrees when i wake up. not exactly buenos aires id say. this wouldnt be that big of a problem, if the INSIDE of the house im living in were above, say, 60 degrees. it seems my roommates wish to save a bit of money, and one way of doing so is keeping the temperature WAY down low. the first night i was alone so i of course turned up the heat to a more suitable temperature. the next night however, i think i was slightly frostbitten on 90% of my body. see sleeping on a bed of air on the floor in a house that is 64 degrees at night means you're essentially sleeping on 64 degree cold air. yummy. the next day i coughed up $29.99 and bought a heating blanket, which is my new best friend. i take him everywhere with me in the house; let's just hope he can keep me warm thursday night when the temp drops below 0.

i hope that geraldine, bj, and betty are having fun around the world. i expect some pretty great stories and at least SOMEONE to come home with a tan. dont disappoint me ladies.

you know you love me.
xoxo,
bev and her heating blanket ;)

Egypt Anyone?

You know what I love? When you really need some information and your professors are conspicuously MIA. Take for example, my WT professors. Today as we were all horrified to discover, Israeli troops invaded Gaza, after several nervous phone calls from friends, I decided to find out for myself. Now this would have gone perfectly well had my professor decided to respond. So now, here I am, sitting alone in the living room, fretting about the fate of my Egyptian experience. That's all for now, I will be sure to keep you updated.

Don't forget to walk like an Egyptian,

Barbara Jean

New From The 'Castle

This morning I woke up feeling a little under the weather, stumbled into the kitchen to see 7 bottles of alcohol sitting on my kitchen counter, numerous types of empty beer cans and bottles, clothes scattered around the living room, salt and slices of limes in the sink, and shot glasses galore. Then I obviously realized why I wasn’t feeling so hot. No regrets ;)

As a pseudo member of Sem 3 and currently the only one holding down the fort in the g’castle, I’m the only one who can give you a little taste from home, deal with it. Here’s your news ☺

Mood: Giddy
Favorite new song: Gives You Hell
Last Movie Watched: Marley and Me
Current Song on Ipod: Screaming Infidelities

A lot has happened over break. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I got pulled over and didn’t get a ticket, etc. Basically it’s just been another typical week! I miss all of my loves from Sem 3. BJ has gotten an insane amount of drunk (and sober) dials, Journey Jo and I have plotted revenge on many, I’ve stalked Bev, and Betty, Cornelius, and I had an amazing video chat last night. Now I would much rather have them all here with me right now, but we will be reunited sooo soon.

Also, I have finally started acting like a college student again. My tolerance is coming back to me, which isn’t necessarily a good thing. On Friday, I managed to start drinking and black out all in fewer than 2 hours, kind of lame. Luckily I made up for it last night by staying up until 6am having drunken heart to hearts about life, love, and tequila. Last night’s party goers have massive dinner date tonight at b-dubs with plenty of drinks after we get home, then tomorrow is new years and I will be drinking in the Nati, finally Friday a few of my Sem 3 loves come back to me, which is cause for yet another drinking celebration. My liver hates me, but this week has been so worth it.

Hakuna Matata.

One good thing about not being at Seminary

Is that I can talk about all of the stuff my roommates tell me not to. Point in case, Bev's cyst. Now for those of you who don't know, in the last few months, Bev has developed a rather large cyst on her leg...how, we're still not sure. The possibilities are as follows:

1) She contracted some strange disease in Cameroon
2) She was injured while Papa Legba mounted her
3 ) Bad circulation
4) Ellie gave her ringworm, which left untreated, caused a cyst to grow
5) She is the one eating the toilet paper which caused some strange reaction resulting in the cyst

Now I'm not sure about you all, but If I had to guess I would say #2 as she has a long history with Papa Legba. Anyways, our dearest Bev had the lovely cyst removed this past week and is now on crutches. On the plus side, she doesn't have to wear those sexy socks anymore :) Love ya Bev

Hope everyone is enjoying their last few days of freedom before WT starts. Oh and one more thing, Betty's mom just informed me that things are being blown up in Cairo...good news for me as thats where I will be spending 90% of my winter term.

Papa Legba love to all,
Barbara Jean

Don't hate be Bev, wuv you!!!

He Came, He Saw, He Conquered

Santa Claus, that is. I must say that Christmas is my favorite holiday of all time, for obvious reasons of course. Presents, yummy food, fires and trees. I feel like an idiot admitting this but I feel like a giddy 5 year old when it comes time to open presents. I don't even like to open my own presents so much as watch other people open theirs, I love watching people get exactly what they want.

Anyways, on another note, I sorely missing my roommates. I miss chatting with them before we go to bed, I even find myself attempting to walk to their rooms when I'm at home. Also, our house is so quite at 3 am, I am used to leaving my bedroom door open and carrying on a serious conversation with Bev at 3 am, as its guaranteed that she will be awake.

Alright, enough for now. Sorry this post was so boring but I have no funny stories to relate as I am not at Seminary and as you know, nothing fun happens outside of Seminary 3.

I hope Santa brought everyone what they wanted this Christmas.

Hugs, Kisses and a round of eggnog to all

Joyous Announcement

I realize that I literally just posted but I forgot to mention something very important. I received an ecstatic text message from Chastity two days ago informing me that our very own Journey Jo is engaged. Needless to say I screamed when I read the text.

Journey Jo, fondly known as the committed friend, has been dating Jedediah for awhile and we all knew this was coming, and yet Im happy to say I still almost peed my pants when I heard the news. And if you were wondering, her ring is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!!!!!!! It sparkles like none other. Nice work Jedediah, nice work.

Love to Journey and Jedediah
Barbara Jean, Betty, Bev and Geraldine

Good Friends Cereal

I would first like to note that I am very disappointed in my roommates as they are forcing me to be the only one that updates our beloved blog. Bev, Betty and Geraldine get your asses in gear.

On a more light hearted note, I talked to Cornelius last night and he informed me that he purchased Good Friends cereal, I laughed so hard I legit cried. Why is this funny you ask? Well my friends if you had an extensive knowledge of Rob and Big like the women of seminary 3 you would know. Props to you Cornelius as I am fairly certain that cereal tastes like ass. We all know you only bought it for the picture on the box.

Peace and Love to all on the Eve of Christmas Eve

Coming at You Live from the Indianapolis Airport

Dear God. I have been stuck in the Indianapolis airport for the 10 hours (yesterday) and 3 hours today. Let's just say that I am not a happy camper and am about to pull an Isla Fisher, from wedding crashers, style tantrum. Ok I understand weather related delays, but a computer maintenance light that takes 10 hours to fix is beyond me. Luckily Chastity is a great pseudo roommate and came to get me and helped console me with Marvs (love ya biotch).

Since I have been at the airport I have noticed a few important things that I feel I must share with you.
1)Airports are NOT, I repeat NOT conducive to sleeping, the floors are really hard and the constant announcements make it difficult to fall sleep in the first place.

2) Starbucks at the airport does not taste as good as Starbucks other places

3) Magazines are ridiculously over priced

4) Gate Agents are NOT nice people

5) Northwest Airlines has a conspiracy theory against me

Well thats all for now, hope you enjoyed hearing about my hellish stay at the airport, I'll be sure to keep you updated on flight statuses and such.

Bisous to all of you who are at home in your beds on this snowy morning.

And then there was one.....

It is with great sadness that I must inform you that only one of the lovely seminary 3 ladies remains. Betty left early this afternoon and Bev left yesterday. It was with sadness (and sleepiness) that I bid Betty farewell, but don't worry we've already talked twice since she left 6 hours ago! Anyways, I felt the need to post as I am sitting here at Chastity's house getting ready to go home to my empty house. So with that, as the last of the residents of Seminary present, I bid you farewell and happy holidays and good luck to all of you who have finals tomorrow.

Hugs and Kisses from Chastity and BJ

A Message From Chastity

Today After I woke up from my 5 hour coma, I had this little number in my email inbox, lets just say I was peeing my pants. Oh and on another note, Bev has left seminary 3, sad day. Ps Bev, if you're reading this, you forgot to clean the bathroom!

From Chastity:
"In my efforts to procrastinate, i decided to make seminary 3 their very own christmas card....with the addition of 2 of their favorite people, myself and kelsea (because you love us, and because i had 2 heads to fill) sorry im so creepy."
love you all!

So Long, Farewell....

I am sad to report that Geraldine bid Seminary 3 adieu today. The lucky biotch finished up her finals, packed up her gear, accused all the roommates of eating her goldfish and peaced out. I must say the living room us unpleasantly vacant and the overall chemistry in the apartment is off. It is 11:03 pm and no one is asleep....and probably won't be for awhile.

In other news, I have a very serious complaint about DePauw University. Late this afternoon when I was walking to the library, I almost biffed mmm about 6 times (if you don't know what biffed it means, its a Minnesota term for fall). Betty encountered the same issue. As she was walking to the hub, up the ramp she fell. Now she happened to be on the phone with one of our friends, since she is not listed, we will call her Blanche. Suddenly, in the middle of the conversation, Betty yelled "Oh NO!" and the phone disconnected. Now Blanche, being the good friend she is, immediately called me to see if I was with Betty, when I said no, she informed me that Betty had fallen. Luckily nothing but Betty's pride suffered damage.

Thats all for now, time to study a little bit more.
Good luck to all of those who are brave enough to walk across the skating rink that is campus.

Very Important Discovery!

So I realize that I just posted mmm...about 5 minutes ago but I forget this small discovery I made the other night. In order to combat the outrageous temperature in my room (read the post about heat control) I opened all of my windows...yes, you heard me. Cold dorm style.

Anyways, As I was bundled up in my bed on the verge of hypothermia, I decided, at 4 am, to go on a mission and discover the source of the heat in my room. After turning every single heat control in the house (and then running back to my room to feel the heaters) I was dismayed as none of them were responsible for the inferno.

So, naturally, I decided I needed a cookie, in order to drown my sorrows. As I reached for the light switch in the kitchen, my hand knocked against a heat control! The only one in the house I had yet to try. Sure enough, I had found the culprit. So now my friends, I am pleased to inform you that my room is a comfortable temperature, the noisy neighbors, however, are still a problem.

Kisses,
BJ

Paper Topics

You know what I hate? When you're sitting in class and decided to raise your hand in order to receive participation points, the professor calls on you, you give your little blip and then all of a sudden they look as if you are God's gift to students. And then they say those dreaded eight words, "That would be a great final paper topic!" Now that would be all well and good if you had actually thought about the comment before you said it out loud, because in reality the only reason you said it was because it was the only part of the reading you could remember.

I am sad to say that this happened to me my friends and now I'm stuck. Between a rock and a hard place. Either I suffer through writing a 8-10 page paper on an obscure topic or I let my professor down. Big time. Today I went to meet with said professor, intending to tell him that I was switching paper topics, and explain the limited amount of research I had found on the original topic. Much to my dismay, he began to get extremely excited about what I had found, needless to say I couldn't shatter his dreams by telling him of my intentions to give up.

So here I am. Stuck. How am I supposed to write an 8-10 page paper on a person whose name we don't even know? I have found a solution to this problem: I will never raise my hand in class again.

XOXOXO to all who are under the covers with Roy O on this snowy afternoon.

More to follow later!

BJ
